Development Arrested: Mae Whitman Is No Longer Bionic

Posted in General News by Craig on June 27th, 2007 | Permalink

Changes are in store for Bionic Woman before the first episode even airs.

Mae Whitman, who was to play Jaime Sommers’ younger sister, Becca, is no longer listed as a part of the cast on the official NBC website. In addition, the trailer on the official NBC site has been recut, completely eliminating Jaime’s younger sister. (Fortunately, it also includes some new clips, so check it out!)

TV Guide’s Mike Ausiello confirms in a not-quite-exclusive (considering this was posted last night at BW.com) that Whitman is out, and seems to imply in his posting that higher-ups didn’t want the sister to be deaf. Casting sides that were released on June 26 do not have the disability; however, these sides are the same ones that were distributed when Mae Whitman was cast earlier this year.

Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

Before she gets better, faster, and stronger this Fall, fans in the United Kingdom can see Michelle Ryan in BBC One’s production of Jekyll.

Jekyll stars James Nesbitt and it is written by Steven Moffatt, the very talented man who brought us Coupling as well as Doctor Who episodes including “Blink,” “The Doctor Dances,” and “The Girl in the Fireplace.” The mini-series will be running on BBC One throughout June and July.

Pilot Episode Review Online!

Posted in General News by Craig on June 17th, 2007 | Permalink

The “Televisionary” has managed to get a hold of the Bionic Woman pilot (lucky dog!) and the response is fairly positive.

The review says “it definitely isn’t your father’s Bionic Woman.” He seems happy with the way the pilot looks and the casting of Michelle Ryan as Jaime.

Televisionary’s article is full of spoilers, but if you want to read what he has to say, visit the blog.

IGN Interviews Michelle Ryan

Posted in General News by Craig on June 14th, 2007 | Permalink

In a new interview on IGN.com, Michelle Ryan talks about her Bionic predecessor, among other things.

“I remember seeing clips of Lindsay Wagner and thinking that she looked like a very pretty, very nice lady. I was so young, that that’s all I really remember,” Ryan says, when asked if she’d seen the original 1970’s Bionic Woman television series.

She has her own opinions regarding her own version of the character. “I would say she’s feisty and smart and loyal, and also warm and vulnerable. She’s a young woman who’s trying to find her way in life, she’s dealing with these incredible things that are being thrown at her. But yes, she’s kicking ass, and yeah, she is kind of taking on the world. But she’s also feeling very vulnerable, and she has a boyfriend who isn’t entirely honest with her. And you know, who can’t identify with that?

Katee Sackhoff Talks Sarah Corvus

Posted in General News by Craig on June 13th, 2007 | Permalink

Katee Sackhoff discussed her upcoming recurring role as Sarah Corvus in an interview recently posted at CRAVE Online.

“She’s the original Bionic Woman, the first Bionic Woman,” Sackhoff teases. “She doesn’t let anyone forget it. And she’s kind of gone off the reservation. She’s a little crazy.”

Sackhoff reveals that her character’s bionic parts include both legs, both arms, two eyes, one ear, and part of her chest.

She also discusses her initial fears that Sarah Corvus would turn out to be like Starbuck, her character on Battlestar Galactica. “But she didn’t, she turned out a little bit like Number Six,” Sackhoff told CRAVE. “She’s the femme fatale. She’s dangerous, she’s sexy, she knows it and she uses it. She walks with a purpose and Starbuck really doesn’t.” It’s two different sides of the coin but both misunderstood.

Michelle’s Bionic Worries

Posted in General News by Craig on June 13th, 2007 | Permalink

Michelle Ryan was at first unsure about taking the role of Jaime Sommers in the new “re-imagined” Bionic Woman.

“I was unsure about it because of the commitment - it’s seven years, if it takes off. But I really do think this is an opportunity of a lifetime,” she said in an interview posted at Metro.co.uk.

In the United Kingdom, Michelle Ryan is best known for her role on the serial EastEnders, which she left in 2005. She sees doing a series in another country as a great opportunity. “I feel like it’s a clean slate over there, no judgements from being in a soap or anything like that, people just taking you for who you are,” she said.

“If it works, great, if it doesn’t they send you back.”

Bionic Pilot Has Several Battlestar Connections

Posted in General News by Craig on June 8th, 2007 | Permalink

Having Battlestar Galactica’s David Eick on board may have come in handy when it came to casting for the pilot episode.

In addition to Katee Sackhoff in the recurring role of Sarah, the first Bionic Woman, three other Battlestar alums will be seen in the series’ pilot.

Look for Aaron Douglas (Chief Tyrol), Michael Hogan (Col. Tigh), and Dominic Zapronga (Jammer) to make appearances in the premiere episode.

With Battlestar Galactica supposedly ending after its fourth season, could this mean more actors from the popular sci-fi franchise may show up on Bionic Woman? We’re betting it’s very likely…
