Jason Smilovic Talks Lindsay Wagner, Other Bionic People, Reshoots, & More

Posted in General News by Craig on July 20th, 2007 | Permalink

Sean Elliott of iF Magazine has interviewed series writer and executive producer Jason Smilovic about the series, and iF landed some good exclusive tidbits in the process.

Smilovic reveals, for example, that the only reshoots planned for the pilot involve the recast Becca Sommers, putting Lucy Hale in the role originated by Mae Whitman and eliminating the deafness angle. Regarding the possibility of getting original Bionic Woman Lindsay Wagner onto the show, Smilovic says “we’re open to anything.”

He refuses to comment on the potential of a bionic man in the series, and talks about the types of formidable villains that Jaime will face.

It’s a really terrific interview, which you can read at iF Magazine’s website.

Considering Mr. Morgan wrote this webmaster’s favorite-ever episode of Millennium (a show that also employed Glen Morgan), this is very good news indeed.

No word yet on other writers for the series, although if anyone wants to submit any anonymous tips, please don’t hesitate to send an e-mail.

Bionic Sister: Lucy Hale Is The New Becca Sommers

Posted in General News by Craig on July 17th, 2007 | Permalink

Many media outlets are reporting that Lucy Hale is the new Becca Sommers. The character has also undergone a radical transformation and will no longer be deaf. Instead, the character will be a computer hacker.

At Zap2It.com, producer Jason Smilovic talked about the change and the reason that Becca had been deaf in the first place.

“Without going into too much detail, it’s that we wanted to create an organic way for — Jaime was originally working in a lab,” Smilovic said. ”She was going to be assigned to these chimpanzees. The chimpanzees were going to Dr. Anthros, to this gentleman right here [co-star Chris Bowers], who was using them for experimentation. He would come down to get the chimpanzees and he would — you know, they sort of fell in love during that time. And we were looking for a — an organic way for her to be talking to the chimpanzees in sign language. Of course, the chimpanzees disappeared. The lab disappeared [in the version with Whitman]. The deaf sister stayed, but now she’s disappeared as well.”

Lucy Hale’s previous credits include The O.C., Drake and Josh, and How I Met Your Mother. Look for the pages within BionicWebsite.com to appropriately reflect the change soon.
